Day 4

We had a bit of a lie in today - much needed as I seemed to take forever to get to sleep

We were out of the room for 9:45 and noticed our usual Starbucks was closed but no matter, there was another just 10 minutes away

After a lovely breakfast we set off to finish our shopping and noticed that the nearby shops weren’t open

We’d made a tactical mistake

NO shops were open

Dortmund closes on a Sunday - kinda makes sense why last night was so busy now…

Bugger - oh well, back to the room to stare at our phones for a while - I was still quite tired so to be fair it wasn’t the worst of all outcomes …

At 12 we had to leave our room so we waited for an hour in reception for the taxi to arrive

Either Dortmund has a taxi deficiency or this guy is the busiest taxi driver in the world because it was the same guy that had met us at the airport 2 days earlier!!

There were road closures so it took 30 minutes to get to the airport and our flight wasn’t until 5pm

That was ok though because Germany had shut down anyway and the airport must have some shops and somewhere to eat

We asked the information desk where that might be and they apologised and said that this was a very small airport and there was only one shop and one cafe, after security

Security looked like something that I had made but my suitcase was rejected

They made me open it up and take out all the plugs and wires and the two Xmas decorations I had bought Joss and put them in another box to go through the X-ray machine again

Again it failed - and they said it was these decorations

To sit up, they have “sand” in their arses and security said that if we were professionals, they instead could be filled up with explosives!!!

Just because I have a beard doesn’t make me a bomber - that’s racist!!

Anyway they had to swab the poor things arses and thankfully they passed the tests

We went off to get something from the world’s smallest shop and buy a sandwich from the world’s smallest cafe

There was nowhere to sit so we decided to go to gate 2 where the plane would be in 3 hours and sit there

This is a picture of the room that contained gates 0,1 and 2

I am sat at one end of the room

At any one point there could be 600-800 people waiting for 3 flights, with 25 seats available

Lucky we got there so early…

Unfortunately the flight was delayed by an hour and more unfortunately we were right next to a screaming child for the flight but luckily we’d both got our earphones so the hour’s journey wasn’t too bad

Security was another breeze and despite awful driving conditions we got home at 10:15 which included a burger stop at fleet services

Good job I had text Joss we were stopping there as Kieren dobbed me in by using find friends to stalk me and report back to Joss….

It’s been a brilliant weekend but I feel a bit broken now - time for some sleep that wasn’t alcohol induced 😊
